THE Dalgety Bay and Hillend Gala is set to rocket back into action on Saturday with a day of space-themed fun.

After a break of two years because of the pandemic, the community event will also launch the 24-hour Relay for Life, which will take place in the middle of the gala arena.

The 24-hour walk for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is aiming to hit £1,000,000 after 13 years of fundraising. Proceeds from the wristband sales and from the tea tent will be split between the gala and Cancer Research UK.

The day will offer entertainment for all ages with the ‘Blast-Off’ entertainment zone back bigger and better with the usual bouncy castles as well as new entertainment including a 27-foot helter skelter, a 60-foot army assault course, Laser Tag and Nerf Zone.

There will also be a very special immersive planetarium experience, musical performances from many local groups and crafts and other stalls.

Gala chairperson Lindsay Cranston said: "It will be amazing to bring the community together and give the children something to look forward to after a tough couple of years.

"We hope the community will get behind us and we would love to see people joining in the Space theme and getting dressed up and ready for the parade!”

Niamh Crawford (CRUK), of Relay for Life, added: “We are excited that this year’s 24-hour Relay for Life walk will be part of the Gala Day this year!

"After 13 years of fundraising, this year we hope to hit £1 million in total fundraising for Cancer Research UK. It will be a great atmosphere and a great way to kick-off the first part of the 24-hour walk.”

The gala will take place at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre on Saturday between midday and 4pm and the parade will leave Jubilee Park at 11.15am.

Entry is free to the gala with wristbands for £6 giving access to this year’s Blast-Off Zone. To reserve your wristband and beat the queues on the day, message the Dalgety Bay and Hillend Gala Facebook page.
