A DUNFERMLINE venue has been crowned Restaurant of the Year after another national award win.

Dhoom, which opened in 2018, picked up the accolade on Tuesday at the Scottish Curry Awards finals in Glasgow.

Owner and head chef Dhaneswhar Prasad (known as Prasad) said: "I came from a small village in the northern part of India, where there is no electricity, no roads and not even good toilets, I used to walk 15 kilometres to the school, it’s a big achievement for me to own a restaurant which became the best in the whole of Scotland. I am so thankful to my family, friends and well-wishers for their continuous support.

"Dhoom is a first Indian 'streatery' restaurant in Fife and is continuously getting recognition from all over Scotland and we change our menu every three months.

"We are the only one restaurant in the country who travel all over India every time we change the menu and try to get real street food from different regions of Indian streets.

"All our guests love the food and our concept, of serving best and healthy food to our guests, by not using any butter, cream or nuts in the food, which will bring comfort to the stomach after eating the food."

They were judged against the three other regional winners after being named Restaurant of the Year South East previously.

Prasad spent several weeks recently travelling Delhi, his hometown, researching dishes for their newest menu, which was inspired by the area.

He continued: "My dream from day one was to give healthy, tasty, and basic food to my guests, so Dhoom brings my dream to life. After opening around 50 restaurants for other people, finally I managed to open my own to make my dream true.

"My whole team is so passionate about the hospitality industry, it’s not only the quality of the food, in terms of service we give our best to the guest."

Last month, the team won Highly Recommended Place in Scotland at the Scottish Entertainment Awards, following on from several successes over the years, including winning Scotland's Inspiring Restaurant of the Year 2021 and Best Indian Restaurant in the Scottish Curry Awards 2019, as well as being Highly Commended by readers in the Press 'Best Curry House' competition last year.
