A DUNFERMLINE soft play centre has announced plans to expand.

Play Planet, who opened at Queen Anne Street in December 2019, are jumping into their next adventure and are now set to move into the old Scampers building in Pitreavie Business Park.

General manager Lauren Baillie stressed that there were no plans to overhaul Scampers, only to bring it up to date with their current location.

"It was always our dream that we could open somewhere else. We were closed for such a long time but I don't think this would be happening if we had been open without COVID," she told the Press.

"We want to keep a lot, we know people loved it and we want to keep it as close to how it was as possible.

"Families loved the layout as they were able to keep an eye on their kids the whole time.

"We want to add in a bit more – Scampers opened in 2015 so we just want to bring it more up to date."

Importantly, Lauren says that they are hoping to add more parking to the site, as they hope to make it more accessible to those driving than their city-centre location.

They also plan to increase the size of the baby area, which she says tends to be small.

"A lot of places have it as an after-thought," she explained, "but that is our busiest area during the week – we want to make that a lot bigger."

It's hoped that between five and 10 jobs could be created, including weekend positions for young people who are looking for experience working with children.

Lauren also said that while they didn't currently have plans for any further expansion, she could "never say never" and that customers had shown interest in them broadening their horizons to other areas.

"As a family-owned business with small children, we are really excited to take it over and we are making sure we are not ripping out things which people loved.

"We are hoping it will be better for older kids too, we don't currently even charge for those over the age of 10, but this building has a lot more height so will be more interesting to them."

The team currently have their sights set on opening the new centre by the end of the year.

Last week, the Press reported that the original Play Planet, which takes up the space above The Ball Room pool and snooker hall, have started work on a new sensory room.

The state-of-the-art zone will use lighting and interactive sounds to create a sensory experience for children and young adults with additional support needs.
