NHS FIFE say their staff are increasingly being threatened and subjected to abuse.

Services have been under severe pressure, resulting in long waits at A&E and delays in getting appointments, but members of the public are taking their frustration out on frontline workers.

Appealing to the public to "be kind", a post from NHS Fife stated: "We are receiving increased reports of our staff being subjected to abuse.

"Our teams are working incredibly hard to provide healthcare during a time of particular pressure across services.

"Please, be kind and treat them with the respect they deserve."

In a video message, a member of staff said: "Our services are under a lot of pressure so please, whether we work in a hospital or pharmacy, GP practice or elsewhere, treat us with respect.

"We have the right to come to our work without the fear of threatening behaviour or physical or verbal abuse."

NHS Fife said that, while services are stretched, if it is an emergency call 999.

If it is not critical or life-threatening, call NHS 24 on 111.
