ROCK stars and festivals could be on their way to a former coal mine near Kelty with a new all-weather event arena now available for hire.

After the success of last month's Platinum Jubilee Youth Spectacular at St Ninians, with TV celebrity Stephen Mulhern presenting a show that saw more than 450 performers entertain thousands of fans, the site owners now want to attract more top acts to their new West Fife venue.

Irene Bisset, chair of National Pride UK, said: “This arena is located in a truly spectacular setting with easy access to the national major road network. It is now available for hire as a highly-versatile venue and could be used to host a variety of possibilities.

“We would be delighted to speak with any event organiser looking for a unique outdoor venue in a setting that showcases Scotland’s heritage and potential."

The arena is 5,400 square metres in size and located just off junction 4 of the M90 motorway.

Last month's spectacular, which included the world-famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers, saw nearly 1,800 spectators at each of the performances but the venue can be adapted to accommodate much larger numbers if required.

National Pride UK, a community interest company, bought St Ninians and the adjacent Loch Fitty site with long-term plans to develop the 976 acres into an ecologically-friendly and environmentally-sensitive health, wellness and leisure destination.

In the meantime, the land could be a real crowd-pleaser if they can attract major events and big names.

It will also suit other uses that can bring in cash to aid the development plans.

Set alongside artist Charles Jencks’ stunning land art forms, known locally as the ‘walnut whips’, and the large water bodies of Thornton Wood Loch and Loch Fitty, the site provides a large and flexible venue for hosting trade shows, commercial and corporate events and entertainment.

The arena and adjacent internal access roads and facility areas were constructed of more than 30,000 tons of recycled rock from within the site, greatly reducing the performance areas' carbon footprint.
