Kelty Hearts 0-2 FC Edinburgh

IT was a disappointing start to the season for the newly promoted Kelty Hearts as they faced off against FC Edinburgh in their League One opener.

The team, who had proudly raised the League Two title winners flag before kick off, failed to make an impact on the match, which saw them leave empty handed.

Captain Michael Tidser was named the club's man of the match, though waited until the 79th minute to take his shot at a goal, which went just past the post.

The first half saw attempts from Thomas O'Ware, whose shot following a corner for the home side went just over, as well as Jamie Barjonas and Joe Cardle, who were both denied by Robbie Mutch.

FC Edinburgh secured their first goal in the 34th minute from John Robertson after he made a good finish from the edge of the box.

There were roars from the crowd shortly after, when Kyle Doherty was shoved in the back while going for a header, but the opportunity was waved by referee Calum Scott.

Just before half time Reis Peggie was forced off the pitch after he looked to roll his ankle after a hit from the ball, he was replaced by Ross Philp.

The first half ended with FC Edinburgh in the lead.

Kelty kicked off the second half in what should have been a push for a point but couldn't make their mark on the match.

It was 15 minutes before either side made a move, with Cardle and Alfredo Agyeman being blocked in their attempts.

The away side should have extended their lead soon after when Jordan Forster conceded a penalty.

Robertson stepped up, but his shot was easily saved by Darren Jamieson.

The keeper went on to make two good saves against FC Edinburgh sub Ousman See in the last minutes of the match, but couldn't make it three as the striker slotted the ball into the net in the 90th minute.

The game was over before the final whistle was blown with disheartened fans leaving the ground in their droves as the capital city side enjoyed their victory.
