AN AMAZON warehouse worker in Dunfermline helped himself to camera equipment worth more than £2,000.

However, Derek Merrilees was caught and has now been fined at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Merrilees, 41, of Gilfillan Road, Dunfermline, admitted that on July 5, 2020 at Amazon warehouse, Amazon Way, he stole a camera, three camera lenses, a camera battery charger and a camera lens case.

The court was told the stolen items were worth £2,028 and there was full recovery.

Defence solicitor Aime Allan said: “He had relapsed into drugs misuse at the time. He’s now on benefits.”

Sheriff Grant McCulloch told Merrilees: “This was a complete and utter breach of trust towards your employers.

“I dare say others did the same thing and may have got away with it but you were caught and rightly prosecuted.”

The sheriff fined Merrilees £370.
