A DUNFERMLINE volunteer has been selected to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree.

Terry O’Neill, 44, is one of just 950 adult volunteers from the UK going to South Korea next year in what will be the biggest Scout camp since the start of the pandemic.

He said: “As a young person, I never had the chance of an international Scouting adventure, I can’t wait to go South Korea. I want to use my experience to support younger members of the team and experience new things.”

Next summer, 50,000 young people will attend the jamboree and Terry and the rest of the International Service Team (IST) will make sure they have the trip of a lifetime as they learn new skills, take part in activities and see global issues in a new light.

The 6,000 IST volunteers, including Terry, will not only pass along life skills to the kids but he will be part of a team that plans their activities, provides medical services, catering and infrastructure.

UK Chief Scout Bear Grylls, said: “Congratulations to Terry and all the other adult volunteers who have been selected to support this adventure! World Scout Jamborees only happen every four years and tens of thousands of Scouts from across the world attend each one.

“Young people could not take part in these life changing events without the support of adult volunteers like Terry.

“Over the last couple of years adult volunteers have played an important part in holding our communities together. Now is their chance to have an adventure. I say #Goodforyou to all those volunteers who want to be part of this adventure.”

The jamboree will take place between August 1-12 in Saemangeum, South Korea.

Until then, Terry will be supporting his local unit of young people attending the event as they spend time working on their personal development and inspiring others with their journey.
