EXPECT the unexpected as Culross' annual pottery exhibition returns.

One of a kind pieces will be on sale to the public and members have said that "there's always an element of not knowing what to expect" when it comes to these hand made pots.

Joan Benson, a member of Cone 8, told the Press: "I think we are all quite excited about it, we do it annually around early to mid august but obviously in 2020 we didn't and then last year we did it in quite a small way because of the restrictions that were in place.

"We're all very excited to have it this year, under normal circumstances and be able to welcome people in to come and see what we've been doing!"

Everyone in the group has different level of experiences and different styles or techniques, making every piece on show completely unique. Some members used Raku firing, a Japanese process where pottery is taken from the kiln while they're still glowing with the heat. They're placed in flammable materials to starve the pottery of oxygen, producing a variety of stunning colours from the glaze.

She continued: "There's always an element of not knowing what to expect. I was there last night helping to empty the kiln and I was with one of the most experienced potters in the club and she was saying that you never really know exactly how the glazes turn out, sometimes you can look and think 'wow.'

"I find it amazing that we all start of with he same raw item, a lump of clay and the different interpretations, the different things people make and the different ideas that people have. It's incredible."

Pieces from the group will be on display and up for sale at the Upstairs at Bessie's venue in Culross from 11am to 4:30pm daily until Saturday, August 13. No card payments will be accepted, only cash payments or cheque.
