WEST Fifers are being warned that disruption due to heavy rain and thunderstorms is likely to continue throughout Monday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms which will remain in place until midnight.

The area was hit by heavy rain last night with several roads, including Coal Road and St Andrews Street in Dunfermline, being affected by flooding.

Last night's storm also affected power to some West Fife homes and travel this morning has also been disrupted.

Scotrail say they are having to run trains at a reduced speed on several services including Dunfermline Queen Margaret to Inverkeithing this morning because of the heavy rain.

A tweet added: "Trains through Fife are subject to delays and alterations."

Today's warning is then followed by a yellow warning for rain affecting Fife which will remain in place until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Met Office says possible disruption will continue during Monday due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The warning states: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

The warning adds that there's a "slight chance" that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

The Met Office says the spells of rain, which could be "heavy at times" during early Tuesday, may lead to travel disruption.
