A WOMAN had to be rescued from Inchcolm Island after suffering an ankle injury on Saturday.

Lifeboat crews, coastguards and the Scottish Ambulance Service were involved in an operation to bring the female off the island before she could be taken to hospital.

Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson for Kinghorn RNLI Lifeboat said their volunteer crew was brought in to help after the person had slipped.

"Following initial assessment, our crew picked up a Scottish Ambulance Service SORT paramedic and two South Queensferry Coastguard members from Aberdour to assist with evacuation," they stated.

"The casualty was prepared for evacuation and Historic Scotland personnel assisted with the transfer to the lifeboat. She was then taken to Aberdour harbour where an ambulance was waiting to take her to hospital.

"This was a great example of teamwork between the organisations with a good outcome.

"Special mention to Aberdour Boat Club which was holding its regatta and barbecue and offered refreshments to all SAR personnel on conclusion of the job."
