A DUNFERMLINE woman who waited for her former partner outside his work then launched a violent attack on him has escaped punishment.

Christine Rashid, 49, kicked her ‘ex’ in the groin, headbutted him and pushed him to the ground.

Rashid, of St Andrews Street, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She admitted that on May 23, at Cairneyhill Road, Dunfermline, she assaulted her former partner by kicking him on the body, struck him repeatedly to the head, pushed him to the ground and headbutted him on the head to his injury.

She also admitted that she shouted, swore and acted aggressively.

Depute fiscal Amy Robertson said that, at 10.55pm, the man had arrived at his place of work to begin his shift.

He saw Rashid, who had appeared to have been waiting for him.

She approached her ‘ex’, asking him about his new girlfriend.

She then kicked him in the groin before striking him in the face several times and pushing him to the ground. He got up and tried to calm her down but she then headbutted him.

When police arrived, they found the victim had a swollen lip.

Rashid told officers: “I should have done it harder.”

Defence solicitor Calum Harris said: “The incident arose out of a long-term relationship which has been fairly toxic for her. She feels he has abandoned his children for his new partner.

“She had no intention of using violence when she went to confront him. She accepts she has seen red. She’s a first-time offender at the age of 49.”

Sheriff Robert More commented: “She has tremendous sympathy from the court for what she’s had to go through.”

The sheriff added that the social work report had been favourable, the incident had happened in “hot blood” and so he admonished Rashid.
