THOUSANDS of kids across Fife have been taking advantage of free sporting and leisure activities this summer.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust have recorded that over 31,000 under-17s have taken up the offer of a free swim and nearly 3,500 have took part in free racquet sports and football thanks to funding from Fife Council.

Investment was extended this year to include racquet sports and football in an attempt to get young people more active and saw these activities offered free of charge during the school holidays.

Emma Walker, chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “I’m really pleased with the number of families that have attended our facilities and I’d like to say a big thanks to our teams for working through the unprecedented challenges of related to chlorine supplies.”

Despite global shortages of chlorine and a nation-wide call for qualified lifeguards, the trust was able to keep all seven of its pool facilities open this summer.

The Summer programme is a part of Go Fife, launched by Fife Council and Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, Fife Golf Trust, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, OnFife and Welcome to Fife. They bring an amazing range of activities and experiences to Fife for the Summer.
