THE tapes will go up for a prestigious cycle speedway competition as Fife Revolutions prepare to host the Scottish Open today.

The fifth running of the event, which is sponsored by D&G Autocare, will take place at the 'Fife Fastbowl', the Revolutions' home track at Queen Anne High School.

Four champions will be decided in each of the junior, girls', veterans' and senior categories, with three defending champions returning to try to hold on to their titles.

Gavin Kennedy, Caydin Martin and Lyla Peoples will be vying to retain their veterans', junior and girls' crowns, while there will be a new senior winner, with Gavin Parr unable to defend his title due to other commitments.

Craig Masson, who is the Revolutions' head coach, commented: "The favourite for the seniors will be recently-signed Scottish international Jake Slight. His addition to the Division One team has seen an improvement in performances in our meetings at that level, and it's been pleasing to see how he has improved our young riders.

"He'll be challenged by Lewis Alsop, who made history by becoming the first Fife rider to represent the club in the recent European Championships, which were held in Manchester. He'll hope that experience will help him better his runner-up spot from last year.

"The emergence of youngster Kayden Davidson this year has been fantastic, and he will surely be in the mix for an appearance in the final.

"Edinburgh rider Jason Keith will aim for the veterans' title and will be challenged by current champion Gavin Kennedy.

"It should be a great competitive meeting once again with each category close to call."

The action, which is free to enjoy, begins at 12pm.
