COULD the next Iron Man be designed in Dunfermline?

School pupils are being given the opportunity to create their own superheroes at upcoming comic classes.

Artist Thomas Creilly has been running the sessions, which aim to teach children the essential skills needed to create their own characters or draw their favourite heroes, at Fire Station Creative for more than five years, with their return set for tonight (Thursday), with classes at 5pm and 6pm.

The lifelong fan of the comic book art form said: "Our After School Comic Art Club for kids has now been running successfully for more than five years in Dunfermline and is always busy. It’s been great seeing how the class develops the kids’ confidence in not only their art but them personally too.

"I've seen shy and withdrawn children really come out of their shell when communicating through their art and talking about their comic heroes."

Thomas, who has enjoyed a career in graphic design and illustration after graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone, has also announced plans to expand the venture into Kirkcaldy, where he will be hosting classes at Kingdom Comics for six weeks, starting on Monday.

"I have run a few day workshops and sessions in Kirkcaldy and Lochgelly and I am always getting asked when there will be classes in central Fife," he added.

"COVID delayed my plans for expansion, so I am delighted to be able to run these new classes in Kirkcaldy now with the support of Andrew Magee at Kingdom Comics and Games.

"We are initially starting with level one classes for complete beginners but looking to open level two very soon so if anyone is interested in those sessions, they can register an interest now."

Thomas says he is also in the "planning stages" of holding new classes for adults.

Sessions are bookable in blocks, but spaces are limited and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
