GRAHAM DORRANS has left Dunfermline Athletic, who have have said that they "remain committed" to adding to their squad.

This afternoon, it has been confirmed that the 35-year-old, who joined the club last summer, had departed ahead of the transfer window closing last night.

Former Scotland international Dorrans, who has yet to feature this season due to injury, has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

In a short statement, the Pars said: "DAFC can confirm that Graham Dorrans has left the club ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

"His contract was terminated by mutual consent. The club wish Graham well for the future."

The Press understands that it has been agreed by both parties that they will not comment on the matter further.

Dorrans, who had previously turned out for Livingston, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Rangers and Dundee, was brought to Athletic by then manager, Peter Grant, after he departed Western Sydney in Australia.

He was installed as captain but, in a difficult season, made 23 appearances as Dunfermline suffered relegation from the Championship, with John Hughes latterly replacing Grant, who had left in October.

After defeat to Queen's Park in the Championship play-off, semi-final, Dorrans, whose contract had been due to run until the summer of 2023, had said he was going to "speak to the club" about his future.

After Hughes stepped down, James McPake took charge but, as he worked his way back to fitness from injury, did not feature under the new Pars gaffer.

This afternoon's news follows a quiet transfer deadline day at KDM Group East End Park, which saw no new players coming into McPake's squad.

Earlier this week, he had told the Press that he would "see what the week brings", but would be looking to do business as "efficiently and as effectively" as possible.

McPake has, consistently, spoken of his desire to add quality to his ranks, rather than simply to add numbers, and chairman and CEO, David Cook, has reiterated that stance.

There has been some frustration amongst supporters over Dunfermline's lack of activity on deadline day but, with clubs outwith the SPFL Premiership able to sign players on loan - provided they are from a higher level - and free agents, Cook has emphasised that there is money available to the manager.

He has also revealed that Athletic were rebuffed in several attempts to bring players in, from both Scotland and south of the border, despite working until late in the day.

In an address to supporters, Cook explained: "Like you, we are frustrated that we could not add to our squad ahead of the transfer window closing for permanent transfers in Scotland and in England.

"Both the management team and I were at KDM Group East End Park until late in the night looking to conclude deals on identified targets.

"As we have said throughout, we are keen to strengthen the squad but we want to sign players that enhance a good group of players rather than just sign players to pad out the squad.

"We made enquiries and loan offers for several players in England at established Premier League and Championship clubs. The reality of playing in SPFL League One meant that these offers were rejected by the parent clubs who were hoping to place these players at clubs playing at a higher level.

"We made offers for two players based in Scotland. One was rejected by a club whilst the other was accepted only for the player to decide to stay with his parent club. In addition, we made a number of enquiries for players in the SPFL Premiership. "As the Scottish transfer window remains open for loan moves until 30 September, many of the clubs advised that both they and the players preferred to wait till after the transfer windows closed in England and the SPFL Premiership before they would consider domestic loans in either the Championship or League One.

"We continue to look to strengthen the squad and there is budget available. We remain committed to adding further quality to the group and will continue to explore all options available to us."
