THE cost-of-living crisis is hitting Dunfermline's city centre, with one bar cutting its opening hours.

Monty's, on Guildhall Street, is blaming a 400 per cent rise in gas and electricity bills for the measures.

The bar will now only open Wednesday-Sunday, cutting Mondays and Tuesdays due to low footfall.

Their post on social media read: "Like a lot of small businesses, we have been struggling with increased costs and something has to give.

"Unfortunately, there are no energy price caps for commercial properties and recently both of our gas and electricity contracts have risen by an incredible 400 per cent.

"We have reluctantly taken the decision to close on Mondays and Tuesdays with immediate effect.

"They are traditionally our quietest days but trading both of them throughout the winter will put the entire business in jeopardy."

However, they assured customers that they would be available on those days if needed.

"We will reopen these days during the festive period or if there is something significant happening in town," they added.

"Of course, should anyone want to hire the bar on any of these days, hit us up!

"Rest assured we will operate as normal Wednesday through to Sunday."

And they are not the only ones struggling, Dunfermline's only zero-waste shop, Happy Earth Place, announced their full closure last week due to difficult economic conditions.
