THE manager of a Dunfermline care home has been shortlisted for a regional care award.

Jane Aitken, the general manager of Canmore Lodge, has been nominated for the finals of the Manager of the Year (North) category of the Leaders in Care Awards 2022.

Sharon Batchelor, deputy manager, said: "Jane is a family-orientated lady, her family means everything to her. She came into nursing because her mum died of breast cancer and she wanted to make a difference.

"Jane does everything to enhance the residents' care and wellbeing, she is very supportive of staff and relatives in times of need. As an individual, she is very kind and trustworthy."

Not just a general manager but an ex-nurse, colleagues say Jane is amazing with the residents and you can often find one of them in her office with her as she works, enjoying a cup of tea and her company.

Frances Rankin, activities co-ordinator, told the Press: "The staff really respect her, she's a great boss, but the big thing is she's wonderful with the residents. As well as being a fantastic manager, she was a nurse so she encompasses everything.

"It's not like she sits behind a desk and doesn't understand what's going on, she is completely on the ball with everything."

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 11, at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham with a drinks reception and three-course meal before the presentation of awards.

The team at Canmore Lodge, a Barchester care home, have recently been awarded regional awards for Team of the Year and Chef of the Year at the Barchester Care Awards 2022 recently and now Jane's hard work and dedication is also being recognised.

Frances added: "I'm really chuffed for her. She deserves it, she really does."
