A DALGETY BAY cycling group were left "flabbergasted" when a stranger picked up their £100 lunch bill while on a ride round Fife.

Talking Tandems, a club for blind and partially-sighted cyclists, had stopped in Pitscottie to refuel on Sunday, September 25, where each of the 11 members ordered a meal.

However, they couldn't believe their fortune when they proceeded to pay and found their tab had already been settled by a Good Samaritan.

"I was flabbergasted," Sandy Wood, the leader of the group, said.

"The people in the café had no idea who he was.

"Some people in our group had noticed him standing near the counter area when we were ordering but simply assumed he was undecided over his own choices of food.

"I tried to remember what he looked like but all I can recall is that he was a tall gentleman wearing cycling gear."

It transpired that the benefactor had been a lone cyclist who had also stopped for lunch at the cafe, White Chimneys, and was at the counter paying when the Talking Tandems arrived.

Once everyone had ordered, he had asked for their bills to be added to his, paid, and left without a word.

"I can only assume he saw who we were and gathered what we do from our cycling tops, decided to give us some support, paid our bill, and left," Sandy continued.

"What a generous gesture! If you are reading this, we can only say, 'Thank you so much. Please come and ride with us one day. We’ll happily waive your subscription!'"

Talking Tandems is a registered Scottish charity which aims to facilitate tandem cycling for blind and partially-sighted people in Fife and further afield.

The group take part in two monthly rides as well as biking trips and holidays.
