AROUND 80 holiday lodges could be built near Kelty if a planning application is given the green light.

W J Thomson And Sons has applied for the change of use of agricultural land and an agricultural building to a holiday accommodation site which would house the lodges, a cafe and three retail units on land north of Lochore Meadows at Great North Road.

A planning statement said an open-sided barn building would be converted into a reception area, café and three small-scale retail units for local produce.

"The building is no longer fit for purpose as a barn due to modern farming methods and animal husbandry standards," it explained.

"This will be replaced by a modern alternative elsewhere on the wider farm landholding.

"The proposed development will expand the tourism offer within Fife. It will also enable the establishment of a small-scale café and retail enterprises to serve local needs and visitors to the area."

The planning statement added that the proposals had already been the subject of full public consultation and a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment and were supported by "a suite of technical supporting documents" demonstrating that the proposed development would not have a significant adverse impact on its surroundings.
