A DUNFERMLINE group is limbering up for success after being nominated for a national award.

The Buggy Fitness Group, which meets twice a week in Pittencrieff Park, is up for Jogscotland's Group of the Year award at its annual presentation ceremony later this month.

It is one of three groups to be nominated for the accolade for its work in inspiring and supporting parents, carers and children who attend.

Jennifer Orr, who leads the Monday session, was delighted with the recognition.

"It was a bit of a shock but we are really excited about it," she said. "Both Jenna, who runs the Friday group, and I are volunteers. It is purely for the girls and purely to encourage.

"Dunfermline got a reward recently for being one of the most active communities in Fife or in Scotland not that long ago. We are very proud to be part of that wee movement."

Jennifer joined the group, which was then called Mums on the Run, back in 2017 and she and Jenna Rogers have gone on to lead the sessions.

"I joined the original group in 2017 when I moved to Dunfermline," she explained. "About two years later, we decided to evolve it to Buggy Fitness Group Dunfermline.

"We wanted to make it more inclusive. I regularly run the Park Run in the Glen and more and more dads are running with buggies and grandads and grandmas. We found mums on the run was just for mums so we evolved the group.

"The mums are all different. Sometimes we have members come along just for a block to get out and make friends, then members who joined during lockdown.

"There weren't a lot of groups going on then but because we were outdoors, we could continue. During the height of lockdown, we had an online group and had weekly step challenges to keep us going.

"It is a great community. I am very proud of it but also very proud to be part of it."
