A BLAIRHALL woman has been told by a sheriff to go to a foodbank instead of trying to steal from a supermarket.
Would-be thief Samantha Laird, 36, of Fleming Crescent, was caught in the act and has now appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
She admitted that on September 6 at Tesco, Winterthur Lane, Dunfermline, she stole a quantity of food items.
Sheriff Grant McCulloch told Laird: “This is one of the stupidest things you could have done.
"Filling up a trolley in Tesco then just wandering out with it. It was a completely unsuccessful attempt.
“There are other ways of feeding yourself and your children even if it means going to a food bank. These are difficult times but that does not excuse shoplifting.
“I’m willing to accept this was a one-off aberration.”
The sheriff deferred sentence on Laird for good behaviour until April 26.
