SCOTLAND’S newest city will be the focus of an upcoming special edition of BBC’s Songs of Praise.

The show filmed in Dunfermline Abbey last week to mark the historic building’s 950th anniversary, which will be a key part of the episode.

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins visited the historic attraction with film crews and discussed the city’s role in expanding religion across the country.

Reverend MaryAnn Rennie said: “Our episode is about Dunfermline, about faith in Fife, it focuses on the anniversary of Dunfermline Abbey and gives snippets of history.

"Dunfermline High School were there and set up things that are part of the anniversary celebrations and spoke to Katherine Jenkins about their inspiration to create the art.

"They did a drama performance as well which was filmed in the nave."

She continued: “What is exciting for me is the opportunity to celebrate Dunfermline – I would usually run away from being on television as much as possible! – but the story is of Dunfermline and how long there has been Christian faith at the heart of Dunfermline.

“In the year it has been made a city we have had the King visit – he came because the city bid recognised something special about Dunfermline, so it is nice to show something else special.

"Scottish history and church history is rooted in Dunfermline, and Dunfermline Abbey is a place where a number of churches got their beginning.”

The episode will air on November 6, preceding a celebratory service in the abbey on November 16.
