A CHARITY concert in honour of one of the founding directors of Dunfermline's Fire Station Creative will take place next month.

Proceeds from the gig will go towards Prostate Scotland in memory of Bob Moir, who died at the age of 66 in 2016 after more than a year-long battle with cancer.

He played a pivotal role in the conversion of the city's old fire station into a contemporary arts hub.

Over the course of four months he painted each of the 21 studios to allow the artists and creatives to take up their residency.

The fifth event in his memory will take place on Friday, November 11, at the venue, with a performance from headliners Steamer Lane and support acts Sandy Power and RAAB.

Ian Moir, Fire Station Creative director and son of Bob, said: "This concert is always a blast! Steamer Lane are a fantastic band and the support acts are amazing too.

"The music honours my father’s spirit and we’re grateful that the venue can play a part in raising funds for Prostate Scotland.

"It’s not just about money, of course. It’s about raising awareness of the terrible illness which kills more people in the UK than breast cancer."

The event is organised by Steamer Lane member Alan Forrester, who was a school friend of Bob while they attended Woodmill High.

The pair had played rugby together, though fell out of touch in later years, and Alan was inspired to launch the initiative after finding out about his friend's death in the Press before he was able to catch up with him.

He said: "The main thing I remember about Bob is that he was just great fun always.

"There was one time I never forgot him for, I have a scar on my hand, we were playing rugby at Pitreavie and I got stood on in a scrum, it drew blood and the worst of my language at the time, Bob was the first to show he cared and make sure I was ok - I think that summed him up, cheerful and caring.

"My regret is that I read about his passing in the Dunfermline Press and had been meaning to catch-up."

Since hosting the first concert, Alan says he has learned more about prostate cancer, the signs, and why it is important to know what to look out for.

"All of Bob's friends were there, and family, it was a success, and an emotional success, then we all thought, there's no reason not to do it again," he said of the first year.

"I know each of the acts could sustain a concert on their own.

"RAAB was so impressive last year and got a few people bending my ear to have her back.

"Sandy is a songwriter and knows how to appeal to the audience.

"It's something to look forward to, I am looking forward to it, there's something for everyone."
