A DUNFERMLINE church has been lit up red in support of the Scottish Poppy Appeal.

St Margarets Memorial RC Church is usually lit as a symbol of Dunfermline's heritage but for the next two weeks they'll be painting the city red from 6pm each night as they support the charity this year.

Paddy Mallan, a member of the parish fabric committee, told the Press: "We are delighted to accept this invitation as it is something we did in 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of World War One.

"As of October 24, it will be lit red and will be like this until 13th November. This not only demonstrates our support for the Scottish Poppy Appeal but affords a rightful opportunity for us to remember our Parishioners who served in the Two Great World Wars and other conflicts and who made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf."

The poppy appeal runs in the lead up to remembrance Sunday and because of this, the church will remain red until then.

He continued: "It gives us a chance to support the Poppy Appeal, it's all about 'lest we forget' and we don't want to forget so we're pleased to participate.

"We sincerely hope other historic buildings in Dunfermline will follow us and show their display of support for those who have served in our Armed Forces."
