A COMMUNITY where people can share tips on how to eat healthy during the cost-of-living crisis is to be created in Inverkeithing.

Audrey McIvor, from Rosyth, will be taking over the town's Slimming World group next month after losing more than three stones thanks to the programme.

She said: "Unsurprisingly, the cost of living and food prices has been a hot topic in recent weeks.

"I’m always amazed by what a treasure trove of useful information my Slimming World group is and can’t wait to pass this onto my new members too.

"Members share low-cost recipes and top tips for saving money, as well as tracking down bargains and special offers, so it’s easy to know where to go for the best deals locally."

Audrey dropped from a size 18 to a size 12 and credits that to the social aspect of meetings where she was given the support she needed, adding: "I loved the social connection, losing weight as part of a group – it made it easier and we all learned how we could do it on a budget – even in the current cost of living crisis.

"The fear I had about walking through the doors was immense, but straightaway it was such a safe space and I felt utterly accepted in a way I hadn’t for a very long time.

"There’s no judgement or humiliation, just kindness, care and respect. I became part of a community of people who understood what it felt like to be unhappy with your weight and I wasn’t looked down at in any way.

"My faith in strangers was restored, and I knew I was in the right place – physically and emotionally – to get the help I needed."

She will be hosting Slimming World sessions from St Johns Masonic Lodge in Inverkeithing on Tuesdays at 5.30pm and 7pm from November 1 and new members are welcome.
