THERE'S still no update on when – or if – the new Co-op store in Aberdour will actually open.

The High Street shop was supposed to start trading a year ago and, while building work appears to be complete, it remains closed.

The Co-op received planning permission in 2019 to knock down an existing car garage and former cottages on the site for a store which would create 12 new jobs.

Last August, they announced the opening date, November 26, 2021, with Ryan Scullion, area manager for the retailer, stating that they had "worked hard to develop a store with range, choice, products and services that create a really compelling offer and help us meet the needs of customers and members in Aberdour".

He had added that "we look forward to serving the community from November”.

However, nearly a year after it was due to open, the message wasn't so positive this week.

The Press asked for an update and received a short reply, as a spokesperson for Co-op said: “Plans for the store site have not been finalised or confirmed.”

The external work on the building looks to be complete, there is also a little car park to the front, but locals are in the dark about when it may open.

Iain Fleming, chair of Aberdour Community Council, said: "We are aware that the project is not currently moving forward and we await some definitive action or update from the Co-op on the site.

"We have not been updated in any way to understand what is happening, any reason for the delay or otherwise."
