A DUNFERMLINE church hosted a successful winter coat giveaway last weekend.

The Link Church on Priory Lane welcomed around 20 people to their winter jacket giveaway on Saturday where individuals and families alike benefited from a jacket free of charge for themselves and their relatives with a free cup of tea or coffee and a cake while they waited.

Susan Allan helped organise the giveaway and was delighted by how well it went.

She told the Press: "It went really well, we had no idea whether anyone would show up because it can be quite difficult to admit that you need help and you find it difficult to afford to buy a coat but we probably had around 20 people come through the door.

"They weren’t just taking one coat, they were taking them for the whole family, for their children, the parents and sometimes grandparents who were struggling too.

"We also had people coming in who were collecting for other family members who were too embarrassed to come themselves, we had mums coming in with their children who then stayed and the kids played for a while while mums had coffee and cake."

While many who needed the helping hand went in to pick out a new jacket, many weren't able to make it in and the organisers of the drive have been taking orders and delivering them.

She continued: "We’re going to be doing a community café every Monday, starting on Monday (November 7), with free soup and bread, baking, tea and coffee. Just a relaxed atmosphere with free wifi, a warm place for people to come and have something to eat and drink and not have to pay anything but we’ll also have all the coats so we’ve set up a room upstairs in the church.

"We’ve still got a lot there so they’ll all be available for people to have a little look and take what they need."
