FESTIVE fun will come to Dunfermline next week for the annual Christmas light switch-on.

A traditional programme of entertainment will include carol singers, band and pipers for the annual event, which is taking place on Sunday, November 20.

A small business market will also be set up on Maygate for anyone wanting to start – or finish – their Christmas shopping.

City of Dunfermline area committee convener Councillor James Calder said: "We've had a fantastic 2022 in Dunfermline. Celebrating our status as a city and welcoming a king. And, we've recognised some monumental anniversaries.

"In the lead-up to Christmas, there's a series of events to enjoy before the big Christmas lights switch-on. I hope you all have a great Christmas and we look forward to an equally exciting 2023 in Dunfermline."

On the day, the centre of Dunfermline, High Street and Maygate area will all be closed off to create a traffic-free and safe environment to wander around and enjoy the festivities.

Before the switch-on, the Rotary Club of Dunfermline's Annual Santa Dash will make its way along the High Street after setting off outside M&S at 2pm.

A radio roadshow and the small business market will be on from 1-6pm while registration for the Santa Dash is on between 1-1.30pm.

Between 2-5pm, there will be festive music and song from Dunfermline & District Pipe Band, the Black Watch Cadet Band and Salvation Army while, at 4.30pm, there will be a community parade down the High Street.

The Big Switch-On, conducted by Provost of Fife Jim Leishman, will happen at 5pm.

On the same date, the Enchanted Glen will be switched on which will see the path from Pittencrieff Park's Louise Carnegie Gates to the Andrew Carnegie statue (Vartan’s Way) lit up with fairy lights, projected stars and snowflakes and a giant Christmas bow.

More festive offerings will include OnFife's Joseph McKenzie exhibition from November 19 in the Museum and Galleries while there will be a small business market in the Kingsgate from November 28 until Christmas Eve.
