TRAINS are being diverted away from Inverkeithing train station after a nearby river burst its banks and flooded the line.

Network Rail announced this afternoon (Friday) that services heading towards Edinburgh would be cancelled, while ScotRail confirmed that journeys through Fife would instead run via Cowdenbeath.

Teams currently have nowhere to pump the water which has taken over the track, which was originally closed early this morning due to flooding at Dalgety Bay but was shortly reopened.

Photos show the line completely submerged, while other parts of the town have also faced the consequences of extreme rainfall.

Earlier today Cllr David Barratt, who represents the area, warned that there was road flooding on Preston Crescent and Hillend Road and that The Keithing burn had also broken into gardens on North Road.

He added that he would be organising sandbags to be delivered to residents as water nears homes.

This morning police closed Halbeath Road in Dunfermline, where videos show the water has completely submerged the central reservation barrier, and Ridley Drive in Rosyth.

The B921 between Dalgety Bay and Aberdour and B981 between Crossgates and Inverkeithing are also thought to be blocked.

In Rosyth there are further reports of flooding on Hilton Road, Crossroads Roundabout, on Admiralty Road, Park Road, and Grange Road, while extreme rainfall has also been causing issues on Queensferry Road in Dunfermline and in Pitreavie Industrial Estate, as well as on Kingseat Road where part of a wall is thought to have fallen into the way of traffic.

ScotRail say that there may still be delays on journeys through Fife due to speed restrictions imposed by Network Rail.

The operator is advising customers to check their journey on the app or website before travelling.

Stagecoach East Scotland announced earlier today that all services in all areas would be delayed due to flooding.

This includes the 19/19A route which will be diverted in Rosyth via Admiralty Road instead of passing Ridley Drive and the X27 which will avoid Halbeath Road via Pittsburgh Road, Dunlin Drive, and Linburn Road in both directions.

Those travelling can check the Stagecoach East Scotland Twitter for live updates on cancellations.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for the area yesterday which is set to be in place until 6pm this evening.
