HEADWELL Community Council is bringing festive cheer with the launch of a living advent calendar.

The 20-day event begins today (Thursday) at the Abbotsford Care Home on Headwell Avenue at 6.30pm, with a light display and those who come along will be treated to mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Then from tomorrow to December 20, the community council will announce a house each day where the newest window display will be lit up, creating an interactive advent calendar for families to follow.

Leanne Scott, chair, told the Press: "Different people in Headwell are going to decorate their windows on different days and we'll be letting people know where that is. It gets them to explore where they live and meet their neighbours when they're going to look at the different windows each day.

"It will be a really nice way to get into the Christmas spirit at the start of December in what hasn't been the best of years for many people. We're hoping it will spread a bit of Christmas cheer and let people get to know their neighbours."

There's no theme so the window displays will be a complete surprise and each day, the new display will be posted on the community council's Facebook page.
