FESTIVITIES have arrived at the Glen this year as the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust lights up the park.

Twinkling lights, star projections, an angel on the doocot and a giant red Christmas bow wrapping up Vartan’s Way are a result of the trust's partnership with local lighting company Blachere to give a safe, quiet place for visitors to enjoy some Christmas lights.

Andrew Croxford, chairman of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, said: "The trust is committed to carrying on Andrew Carnegie’s legacy in his hometown of Dunfermline.

"In his founding letter, Carnegie asked trustees to spread some sweetness and light and give people, especially the young, some charm, some happiness. This lighting brings some festive joy to the people of Dunfermline and is free and open to all during current times when many families are facing a real financial strain."

Trustees officially opened the lights, which span the area between the Louise Carnegie Gates and the Andrew Carnegie Statue, last Friday in a light ceremony to mark Andrew Carnegie's 187th birthday.

Gillian Taylor, chief executive of the trust, added: "When we talked to people about their ideas for the Glen last year, many people said that they would like to see a winter lighting feature. Therefore, the trust decided to light up the area again this winter. I think that Andrew Carnegie would be smiling down at his beloved Glen on his birthday today."
