VISITORS will be left with an uneasy sense of comfort after viewing Fire Station Creative's latest exhibition.

The new show, 'Dazed', comes from 23-year-old artist Leah Moodie and will be her first solo display of paintings.

She said: "I am honoured to showcase my work in Fire Station Creative because it is such a beautiful and inviting space.

"I am grateful for the support that the gallery provides for emerging artists.

"My work explores aspects of domesticity and questions our perceptions of the Western 'home' environment.

"Influenced by homesickness anxiety, my work aims to instil a conflicting atmosphere of comfort yet unease, resulting in my surreal aesthetic.

"I create visions of melancholic scenes by combining figures, household appliances, animals and plants at multiple perspectives."

The Edinburgh College of Art graduate is from Orkney originally, though now creates her paintings at her Glasgow home and won the Astaire Art Price in 2020 while still a student.

She added: "Drawing is a crucial element within my practice as I am interested in the concept of the artist’s hand; which allows me to become an active element within these scenarios, both the creator of and participant in these quiet yet resonant dramas.

"This contrasts to the realism of my imagery which is enhanced to uncanny effect through my use of mixed media, including household materials."

Ian Moir, gallery curator, said: "Leah attended a preview in our gallery over a year ago.

"I was impressed by her professional attitude and quickly noticed that she is one of the most promising young painters in Scotland.

"The aesthetic of her work is beautifully executed, which tells me the paintings will stand the test of time.

"This artist is going places, so I encourage everyone to visit, experience her work in person."

The exhibition started on Thursday and runs until December 31 with free entry.
