DUNFERMLINE Athletic Ladies have missed out on the league title but "won't lie down" when they welcome the champions this weekend.

That's the vow from head coach Angie Comrie after she watched her team defeat Dryburgh Athletic 9-0 on Sunday as they won an eighth successive home Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) North/East Division match.

The Pars, who returned to play in this year's league shortly before it kicked off having joining forces with the Pars Foundation, the charity arm of Dunfermline Athletic, after withdrawing from last season's Scottish Women's Football Championship, went into their match at Buchan Ladies United the previous week still in mathematical contention for the title.

However, after what Comrie described as a "very physical" contest, the Pars went down 4-3, with their goals coming from Alex Davie, who netted a brace, and Kerry Finlay.

Comrie added that she "couldn't be any prouder" of her players following that defeat, praising their "phenomenal" character, and they bounced back in style against Dryburgh.

While they were doing so, a 7-0 win for East Fife, who visit Pitreavie for Athletic's last home game of the season this Sunday, over Stonehaven gave them the title, but Comrie insists her team are determined to close out their campaign in style.

"It should be a competitive game," she said.

"We still have everything to play for so we won't lie down. We want to end the season with a win and, if we play like we know we girls can, there's every chance.

"It was great to get back to winning ways (against Dryburgh) and get a clean sheet. We knew with the defeat at Buchan last weekend we were out of contention for the league but this didn't deter the girls; they just went out and played their game."

Tyler Sibbons helped herself to the match ball as she netted a hat-trick, while Jamie Torrance and Rachel King, who both scored doubles, Meg Reilly and Elaine Waugh also found themselves on the scoresheet.

"It was great seeing young Tyler get a hat-trick in the first half. She deserved it," Comrie added.

"Game after game, she runs her heart out, so it was nice to see her hard work getting rewarded.

"What was good about Sunday was we had five different scorers and we played for each other."

At the weekend, the team also held their 2022 presentation awards evening at KDM Group East End Park.
