DUNFERMLINE Athletic Ladies signed off for the season in style as they defeated the newly-crowned league champions last Sunday.

Head coach Angie Comrie expressed her pride at the efforts of her team during the campaign as they ended it by beating East Fife, who suffered just their third defeat.

After a 9-0 victory over Dryburgh Athletic, in which the Pars are pictured, in their penultimate outing, Comrie insisted that her team wouldn't lie down against the Methil visitors to Pitreavie.

Although they didn't make the best of starts, finding themselves two goals down at half-time, Dunfermline rallied in the second period and turned the game on its head.

A brace from Alex Davie, who has netted an astonishing 58 goals during the season, and an effort from Rachel King completed a fine fightback from the Pars to secure a 3-2 victory.

"It was a game of two halves," Comrie observed. "I think nerves got the better of us in the first half. We couldn't get into our stride and we found ourselves down 2-0 going into the break, then the half-time team talk must have worked as Kelly (Armstrong) got the girls motivated and up for it.

"From the moment the second half whistle went, we found ourselves dominating the midfield and started creating chances. That being said, East Fife still had their chances but with some fine goalkeeping from Jamielee (Westwater), she wasn't letting anything past her in the second half.

"This is the first time, when we have conceded first, we have come back and won the game. The girls' mentality is changing; you could see they wanted it more in the second half and got what they deserved – a 3-2 win against the league champions."

Having withdrawn from last year's Scottish Women's Football Championship, the Pars returned to play in this year's Scottish Women's Football League North/East Division shortly before the season kicked off.

The team joined forces with the Pars Foundation, the charity arm of Dunfermline Athletic which runs its community programmes, to field a team, and Comrie continued: "Kelly and I are really proud of the girls this season.

"It's our first season together as a team and, given more time and a pre-season under our belts, we believe the girls could have gone on to win the league.

"Now it's time for a rest and to regroup, and we get ready to go next season."

The new campaign is set to begin early in the New Year.

Meanwhile, the club held its awards evening at KDM Group East End Park recently, with Alex Davie taking the top goalscorer accolade, and the Coaches' Player of the Year prize, alongside Lauryn Hynd. Mims Calis was named as the Players' Player of the Year, with Lauryn Dow winning the Most Improved Player award.
