MORE THAN £3,000 has been raised in support of a "wonderful" Rosyth family who have been left devastated after fire tore through their home.

The Dows, who live on Gill Way, faced a Christmas with "everything gone" from many of their bedrooms following a blaze last Friday, just two days before Christmas Day, which saw one casualty cared for by ambulance staff.

A fundraiser set up by Kerri Bilsborough, also from Rosyth, in the wake of the "awful and scary" event has so far raised £3,640.

The fire destroyed "the majority of the upstairs" of the property, with many of the items lost belonging to the youngest members of the family.

This included sentimental items and essentials like books, clothes and a young child's cot.

Kerri wrote: "On 23rd December a fire broke out in the home of the Dows, destroying the majority of the upstairs.

"Thankfully, everyone was safe, but that doesn’t underestimate the awful and scary event.

"Debbie and Scott have their son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren staying with them and, sadly, it was their belongings that have taken the worst, everything gone, from sentimental items to practical things; baby books, clothes, even Blaine’s cot.

"The other bedrooms have smoke damage, and new furniture will be needed for Robbie and Cain.

"Such a horrible and frightening event for them all and so close to Christmas, another blessing was that the presents were all safe."

She hoped to "take the edge off this awful time" and "give a little helpful hand to this wonderful family who are loved in the community".

Police Scotland confirmed that they were made aware of the incident at around 1.50pm.

The alarm was raised with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at around 12.49pm, with two crews racing to the scene.

A spokesperson confirmed that one casualty was helped by paramedics.

A statement read: "We were alerted at 12:49pm on Friday, 23 December to reports of a dwelling fire on Gill Way, Rosyth.

"Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, where crews extinguished the fire.

"One casualty was placed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service."
