CITY status has been illuminating for Dunfermline with a specially-commissioned light projection in the heritage quarter.

The aim is to give the Maygate a festive glow and a central role in attracting visitors and locals over the Christmas period.

The 'Dunfermline and West Fife – Wellbeing through Heritage' project celebrates city status and funding came from Fife Council's strategic development fund and the City of Dunfermline area committee.

South Queensferry events company 21CC came up with the light show which projects festive images and greetings onto Maygate.

Dunfermline and West Fife – Wellbeing through Heritage is a three-year, £383,000 partnership project led by the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The four main goals are to improve people’s wellbeing as a response to the pandemic; inspire and connect the communities in and around Dunfermline; engage local social care organisations and charities with heritage bodies; and increase understanding and awareness of the potential for heritage to support wellbeing.
