Home to resident peacocks and historic landmarks, Pittencrieff Park is an interesting walk for those wanting to learn more about the city this winter.

The park is overlooked by Dunfermline Abbey and Palace which is where some of Scotland's greatest kings and queens, including Robert the Bruce, are laid to rest.

The park also has a play area for the children and is near the centre of Dunfermline, making it easy to grab a coffee or a bite to eat after a walk.

The Loch Leven Heritage Trail allows for wonderful views of Lochleven Castle and the surrounding body of water.

With access to Kirkgate Park, you can take the kids to the local play area or look at the castle from the Loch Leven Castle viewpoint to the north of the site.

Further down the trail is the RSPB Loch Leven nature reserve which promises a fun day out for the family with its educational facilities and nearby birdlife.

Lomond Hills Regional Park offers more of an incline for winter walkers as well as space to take the dogs out for a stroll.

As this area is more exposed, it would be wise to wear warmer clothing and be mindful of the weather.
