THIS afternoon's eagerly anticipated clash between Dunfermline and Falkirk is in doubt after a pitch inspection was called.

Low overnight temperatures have resulted in frosty conditions across West Fife, and the playing surface at KDM Group East End Park will be assessed at midday to determine whether the match will go ahead.

The Pars go into it sitting top of League One, four points clear of second placed FC Edinburgh, who they play this Saturday, and seven points ahead of third-placed Falkirk.

A 1-1 draw between the teams in September was followed by a 1-0 win for Athletic at the Falkirk Stadium in November, thanks to Craig Wighton's winning goal.

Meanwhile, ahead of the game, midfielder Joe Chalmers said that everyone within the squad were "trying to go about their business as normal", but added there was a "little bit of excitemenet".

The 28-year-old, who has played 25 matches for the Pars in all competitions this season, commented: "It has been a really good first half of the season, but obviously the manager is reminding us that it is only half of the season.

"There is still a long way to go and the manager is drilling it into us that we cannot afford to slip up, it has to be a repeat of the first half of the season if we want to stay top of the table.

"When you are winning, and not losing a lot of goals, it breeds confidence. When you are confident that’s probably when you play your best football and that has been a key factor this season.

"We need to build on that, keep that going, keep the confidence high and hopefully continue the form into the rest of the season.

"We cannot get carried away or start thinking too far ahead. Since the first game of the season the manager has always taken it one game at a time and he has always reminded us of that. Now it is built into everybody in the squad that we just concentrate on the next game. Once that is out of the way, on to the next game and the next game.

"That’s just the way we have taken it all season."
