YOUNG West Fifers will be able to dive into the New Year with a new free swimming initiative.

The Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, in partnership with Fife Council, is launching its Winter Concessionary Funding package aimed to support families with a free offer to help keep children active.

Free swimming will now be on offer for juniors aged between eight and 17 for the first three months of 2023 at venues including the Carnegie Leisure Centre and Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre.

Free admission will be available Monday to Friday during times for public swimming.

Emma Walker, chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer free swimming to families across Fife thanks to additional funding from Fife Council.

"We believe the Winter Concessionary Funding package will deliver real benefits to local communities – we are looking at additional funding measures to offer more targeted support to other age groups and families and will announce these offers soon.

“The trust is committed to making a difference and we believe that this offer, at a time when everyone is feeling the pressure of price rises, will help us deliver on that commitment.”

Linda Erskine, Fife Council's spokesperson for communities and leisure, added: "These are very challenging times across Fife and I'm delighted we're able to make this happen and lessen the burden for families where we can.

“Being able to swim is an important life skill and a great activity to keep you fit and healthy. We hope as many families as possible can take advantage of the offer.”
