DUNFERMLINE has raised a whopping £39,114 for Poppyscotland.

The team of volunteers for the city worked tirelessly to raise the incredible amount, with local businesses, cadets, veterans, schools, groups and individuals all involved.

Provost of Fife Jim Leishman MBE, and Gordon Michie, the charity’s head of fundraising, announced the total at a reception at Canmore Golf Club last Thursday.

Mr Michie said: “We always get a fantastic response in Dunfermline and are absolutely delighted by this incredible total. It’s wonderful to see the Poppy Appeal return to full strength following the pandemic, and the generosity of the public despite a difficult year and rising costs."

Christine Evans, the area organiser, worked hard to co-ordinate collections in local workplaces, on the streets and in supermarkets in Dunfermline, supported by the Rotary Club, Royal British Legion Scotland Riders Branch, 1145 Dunfermline Squadron RAF Air Cadets, A Regimental Band and Black Watch ACF.

The 'Poppy Trees' project, set up by Robert Stalker, of Blachere Illuminations, also brought in more than £3,000 in sponsorship funds from local businesses.

Mr Michie continued: “We are extremely grateful to each of the volunteers, supporters, local organisations and businesses who made this possible. The passion and dedication of Christine Evans and her team is truly inspiring and makes a real difference to our work with the armed forces community in Scotland.

“Every penny raised helps us provide life-changing support to veterans, servicemen and women, and their families throughout Scotland. We’re already seeing unprecedented demand for our services due to the cost-of-living crisis, and this will help ensure Poppyscotland is always there when they need us.”

The money raised this year will go towards the charity's work with the armed forces community, including supporting mental and physical health, employment and finances.
