WORK has begun on a new soft play facility in the heart of Dunfermline city centre.

It is hoped Zac's Cafe, in the Viewfield Baptist Church, will be ready for an April opening offering soft play, a sensory room and a community cafe.

Around £80,000 is being invested into the venture which, it's hoped, will be the answer to the prayers of some West Fife parents looking for something to do with their youngsters.

Pete Hutchison, from the church’s leadership team, was pleased to see plans progressing.

"Before Christmas, we were able to place all the contracts so the materials can be bought and we are on the path for it to be completed," he explained.

"It is a soft play facility over three levels and then there's a sensory facility built in as well. We have seating, sofas and tables on order to come through for March ready for an April opening."

The cafe and soft play will be open three days a week, Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays, from 10am until 4pm and until 5.30pm on Fridays.

The facility will also be available for private bookings on Saturday mornings.

"Parents and guardians are really excited for it – the feedback we are getting is really positive," added Pete. "The next thing we are doing is seeking to appoint someone to oversee it.

"It is about £80,000 to put everything in place. We have received just under £30,000 in grants and the rest has been raised by the church."
