A WEST FIFE charity says it will continue to help Dunfermline families after reaching a significant milestone.

The Children's Clothing Bank Dunfermline this week received its 1,000th referral request after setting up two-and-a-half years ago.

Posting on Facebook, they said they were not sure what to expect when the charity started in summer 2020.

"We were in the middle of a global pandemic and had no idea what was ahead," they stated. "Fast forward a few years and we find ourselves in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. Demand for our service has grown and we are the busiest we’ve ever been.

"Receiving the 1,000th request for a clothing parcel brings a range of emotions. We’re incredibly proud to have helped so many children and families in the Dunfermline area. We’re also thankful for our volunteers and the continued support from the Dunfermline community which has made this all possible. However, it’s bittersweet that our service is needed.

"We’re at the start of a new year and again we don’t know what’s ahead. We hope there will be a day where we post here to say we’re closing our doors as we are no longer needed but, until that day comes, and with your help, we’ll continue to be here for children and families in Dunfermline."

Based in the former Stephens Bakery premises at 21 Chalmers Street, the clothing bank was started by Dunfermline lawyer Craig Smith to help families in need.

It provides clothes to families in Dunfermline and surrounding areas for children up to and including 18.

Any parent or carer in need of help is asked to speak to their health visitor, social worker, school or the Dunfermline Welfare Support Team.

If you are a support worker working with a family and would like to make a referral, the charity can be contacted through its Facebook page.
