PLANS to build 43 new homes on the site of the old Oakley Bowling Club have been withdrawn.

Last week, Fife Council confirmed that KJJ Properties, of Kirkcaldy, was not proceeding with their current proposals, although the firm could yet return with a fresh application.

They had wanted to build 31 houses and 12 flats in an affordable housing development north of Blairwood Terrace.

The site, between Oakley United's football ground and Oakley Industrial Estate, was used as a bowling green until 2007, when the land was sold.

It had formed part of a wider complex of social and leisure facilities in the village, including a clubhouse and tennis courts, but it fell into disrepair and became overgrown.

The site has since been cleared ahead of anticipated development.
