PLANS to create temporary buildings at a Dunfermline nursery while flood damage repair work is carried out have been put to Fife Council.

An application on behalf of Lauriston Nursery states that the arrangement of cabins would house 50 children and toilet facilities, and would be in place for up to two years.

The limited-life accommodation would be placed within the nursery car park.

A supporting document by Oliver and Robb Architects outlines the need for work on the existing building after water damage to flooring and woodwork last year.

It reads: "Since then it (Lauriston Nursery) has been operating on a limited basis which has caused disruption to the children, parents and business.

"To bring the existing building back to the standard prior to the flood requires the building to be temporarily closed in stages while the proposed works progress.

"To ensure the business is sustained temporary accommodation is necessary to house the nursery element but must remain in close proximity to the existing building."

Food preparation and staff facilities are planned to remain within the main building and an agreement with the adjacent church would create 12 additional parking spaces.

A decision from the local authority it due to be made by March 19.
