THE Forth Hedgehog Hospital in Rosyth it to get a helping hand from a Fife "hedgehog hero".

Summer Devine, 10, has set herself a charity challenge of cycling every day in February to raise money for the organisation.

The feat follows a swimming fundraiser in 2022 and a 10,000 steps a day one for the Scottish SPCA the previous year.

Proud mum Clair, from Hill of Beath, said her daughter is driven by her love for animals.

"She loves animals so much and wants to do help them," she said. "I don't know where she comes up with these ideas. Last year, she did fundraising for Edinburgh Zoo and the year before, she did it for the Scottish SPCA.

"Her words this time were she wants to become a hedgehog hero and raise awareness for local charities and help sick and injured hedgehogs.

"It all started really when she saw a picture of an injured hedgehog on their Facebook site on my phone. That spurred her on."

Summer, usually accompanied by Clair and family dog Pablo, has already been pedalling along the streets of her village for her challenge.

"The community have been cheering her on, and last night she went round the full village," added Clair. "Last year she got a local community award from the Lord Lieutenant of Fife so that really encouraged her to choose something else to do."
