SUPERHEROES went on the run with pyjama and onesie-clad kids on Sunday as a West Fife parkrun reached a landmark milestone.

Duloch Junior Parkrun, which was first held in August 2019, celebrated its 100th event and those taking part dressed up for the occasion as part of a special fun day.

A total of 64 youngsters, eight of whom took part in a junior parkrun for the first time, with five others also attending their maiden Duloch event, ran, jogged or walked the 2k course, which starts and finishes outside Duloch Primary School and goes through Duloch Country Park.

Parkrun events, which are free to take part in, are held across the UK, with junior events aimed at kids aged between 4-14, with 5k events also held for adults.

They allow participants to complete the circuit in a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment, where there is no time limit imposed, or anyone finishing last, and offer a variety of volunteer roles to allow them to take place.

Although the outbreak of COVID-19 put the Duloch Junior Parkrun on hold for more than a year, it returned in July 2021, and has now hit its first 100 events.

Andrew Aird. ambassador for parkrun in Fife, commented: "We had some of the Dunfermline Superheroes there, who ran with the kids. In the chat at the start, I did say to the kids, this is your chance to overtake a superhero!

"We had a really good day. We had a lot of kids there, probably an extra 50 per cent from what we've been getting. Hopefully a lot of the that came along can come back again, or even some that haven't maybe been for a while.

"It went really well and we couldn't have asked for any more to be honest."

A total of 31 volunteers, including the superheroes, helped with the running of the event, whilst nine of the runners set personal best times.

Duloch Junior Parkrun takes place every Sunday morning - weather permitting - from 9.30am, whilst Dunfermline parkrun, which is scheduled to hold their 300th event on March 11, takes place 24 hours prior within Pittencrieff Park.
