Residents of Kincardine, Culross, Low Valleyfield, High Valleyfield, Newmills and Torryburn will be able to cast their vote on how best to spend £170,000 on improvements in the local area at an event next weekend.

Forward West Fife, a locally established steering group, has been encouraging residents to share ideas and groups to apply for the funding.

A range of applications have now been received and a marketplace style event will be held at High Valleyfield Community Centre on Saturday, February 25, between 10am and 12.30pm.

Stephen Adamson, Fife Council project manager for South and West Fife, said: “This will be a great opportunity for residents to come along and informally find out more about the bids before voting for their top five choices in making a difference to their community.

“Their votes will collectively make the decision on how the funds will be allocated and we’ll be able to share the results at the end of the event with everyone.”

Scottish Power and Fife Council created two pots of funding to help regenerate the area following the closure of Longannet Power Station and as a result of the ash lagoon incident in 2017.

The allocation of the funding will be overseen by the Forward West Fife Steering Group, which is made up of representation from the five community councils and the West Fife Villages Forum.

Stephen added: “The more residents who come along, the more the projects will reflect the views of local communities."
