TALENTED Pars youngster Sam Young has made a move to Cowdenbeath on loan for the rest of the season.

The 17-year-old, who has featured twice for Athletic’s first team this since, joined the Central Park outfit last Friday, and made his debut for the Blue Brazil on Saturday.

Maurice Ross’ side secured a late, 1-0 win over Caledonian Braves in the Lowland League, with the centre back credited for producing a fine performance at the heart of their defence.

Young, who is a product of the Dunfermline academy, made his first team debut in an SPFL Trust Trophy win over Celtic B at KDM Group East End Park in November, before making his second start in the same competition at Dundee last month, when the Pars bowed out at the quarter-final stage.

His manager, James McPake, commented: “He’s ready for it. Credit to Greg (Shields) and the work he’s done with him at the youth team.

“We saw how he performed at Dens and at East End Park against Celtic B in the SPFL Trust Trophy, and he’s training every day with our first team, when he’s not at Cowdenbeath, against good strikers. Todorov, Wighton, McCann, O’Hara; there’s four different strikers that you’re facing every day in training.

“That’s great for his development, but the next stage is getting him games, getting him playing in football where the results do really matter. That’s no disrespect to academy football, because that’s my background and I love it, but you do need to expose them to the harsh reality that you need to win on a Saturday.

"It’s good for him and a good part of his development.”
