A PROJECT which aims to preserve native species at Calais Muir Woods has been supported by Fife Council.
The scheme was created in conjunction with the community council and Calaiswood Conservation group.
The local authority has submitted a planning application on behalf of those who live in the area to allow the replanting to go ahead.
This will involve carefully digging up existing saplings along the Scottish Power pylon route and relocating them to agreed areas.
It is hoped that this will save the native tree species - including Birch, Willow, Oak, Hawthorn, Hazel, Beech and Larch - from being cut down when they grow too large.
The Fife Council grounds maintenance team will help to find suitable locations for saplings within the park and on the outskirts of the woods.
